Before you begin

Connect one client Shopify store securely and leave it ready for the first controlled synchronisation.

Prerequisites

  • The target client record exists in StoreFulfil.
  • A Shopify user with app development permissions can install the Shopify app; in a merchant organisation this is the App developer role.
  • The permitted Shopify user can enter the secret directly into the secure setup link.

Stop and check

Never send a Client secret through email, chat, tickets, or documents.

Why a Custom App?

During the multi-store pilot, each Shopify store uses an app created and owned inside that store's Shopify organisation. This keeps every merchant's credentials separate while the warehouse manages the operational relationship.

Before you start, you will need:

  • Access to the permanent store domain ending in .myshopify.com (not the public custom domain).
  • To have app development permissions in the target organisation. In a merchant organisation, the organisation owner or administrator can assign the App developer role.
  • The unique StoreFulfil setup link sent by your warehouse for this exact store.

Warehouse role

Creates your client record and sends the single-use setup link. The warehouse does not need your Client secret.

Shopify app developer role

With app development permissions, creates and installs the app, then enters its credentials directly into the secure StoreFulfil link.

1

Create the app in Shopify

Sign in to the Shopify Dev Dashboard with app development permissions. Navigate to Apps, select Create app, and choose Start from Dev Dashboard. Name the app StoreFulfil Connector, then select Create.

Configure app settings

Open the Versions tab and create a version. Define the app URL, select the newest Webhooks API version, and add the required Admin API scopes. Then select Release. If you change scopes after installation, Shopify requires the merchant to approve the new scopes manually.

Securely connect to StoreFulfil

In the Shopify app, open Settings to locate your Client ID and Client secret. Then open the unique StoreFulfil setup link your warehouse sent and confirm that its displayed .myshopify.com domain is the same store. Enter both credentials there yourself.

Keep the secret safe

Do not send the Client secret by email, chat, ticket, document, or screen share. Enter it directly into the StoreFulfil connection form over HTTPS. If the permitted Shopify user cannot complete this step, ask the organisation owner or administrator to grant the App developer role to the intended user instead.

StoreFulfil validates the app and encrypts the secret; it is never shown again.

Shopify’s current reference

Shopify updates its Dev Dashboard from time to time. If a label has changed, follow Shopify’s current guide for creating and releasing a Dev Dashboard app, then return here for the StoreFulfil scopes and secure connection step.

Expected Outcome

The correct Shopify store is connected with store-specific credentials, mapped to the intended warehouse location, and ready for its first synchronisation.

Runbook evidence

Use these signals to decide whether the work is ready to continue, complete, or needs an owner.

State checkpoints

No usable Shopify credential or location mapping is available.

Next: Complete the store-specific app setup and secure connection steps.

Healthy and mapped

Completion evidence

  • The intended store is healthy, mapped, and its initial sync result is visible.

Escalation evidence

  • Record the store domain, displayed health result, and failed step without sharing credentials.
