Use Warehouse Locations and Automatic Station Evidence

Understand the boundary between Shopify warehouse mappings and optional internal storage locations during daily work.

Updated Sept 2026
Owner: Operations Admin
Area: Warehouse Organisation

Before you begin

Explain how the warehouse location and optional shelf or bin detail appear during daily work.

Prerequisites

  • The Admin can identify the physical warehouse for a client’s Shopify location.
  • Internal storage areas or bins are known if the warehouse uses them.
  • Operators can read the assigned location on the work screen.

Stop and check

Do not turn a shelf or bin move into a Shopify location change or require a bin the warehouse has not configured.

Two location layers

Shopify locations determine which physical warehouse owns fulfilment and inventory semantics. StoreFulfil internal locations can add area, aisle, shelf, or bin detail underneath that warehouse root. Moving stock between internal locations must never change the Shopify mapping.

Daily use

  1. Read the mapped Shopify warehouse location before interpreting client inventory or wave work.
  2. Use an internal area, aisle, shelf, or bin when StoreFulfil shows one unambiguous assignment.
  3. Treat a blank internal location as valid when the warehouse has not configured a more detailed placement.
  4. Do not create a child location under a non-warehouse root or move a mapped root that still has assigned stock.
  5. Follow the current work screen; workers do not change warehouse mappings to represent an internal shelf move.

If the location looks wrong

If The Shopify location owner is wrong or unclear

Stop releasing work and have an Admin correct the mapping.

Owner: Warehouse Admin

If The internal bin is blank

Follow the displayed stop or line; do not invent a bin.

Owner: Warehouse Operator

If The work screen no longer matches the physical assignment

Refresh the live work and report the exact visible conflict.

Owner: Current operator

What this is and when to use it

Use this when a wave or inventory view shows a warehouse location, internal shelf or bin, or station detail.

Follow the displayed location

  1. Use the mapped warehouse location to identify the owning warehouse.
  2. If an internal area, aisle, shelf, or bin is shown, follow that assignment.
  3. If no internal location is shown, ask the Admin or floor lead; do not invent one.
  4. Workers do not type a station name. Continue from the current work screen.

Questions and hand-off

If The location points to the wrong warehouse

Stop and ask an Admin to correct the mapping.

If A shelf is empty or stock is elsewhere

Report the physical mismatch and use the shortage or inventory process.

If The displayed assignment is no longer current

Refresh the live work and report the conflict rather than moving a warehouse mapping.

What happens next

The worker follows the shown physical location, while Admins keep warehouse mapping and internal placement separate.

Expected Outcome

Shopify warehouse ownership remains distinct from optional internal storage, and workers can follow or safely report the displayed location.

Runbook evidence

Use these signals to decide whether the work is ready to continue, complete, or needs an owner.

State checkpoints

Warehouse location

The work belongs to the physical warehouse shown for the client.

Next: Follow the warehouse assignment and do not change it for a shelf move.

Internal location shown

A stop or item has an area, aisle, shelf, or bin assignment.

Next: Follow that displayed location.

No internal location

The warehouse has not configured a more detailed shelf or bin for this work.

Next: Ask the floor lead or Admin where to look; do not invent a bin.

Completion evidence

  • The correct warehouse is shown and workers either have a displayed shelf/bin or a clear hand-off.

Escalation evidence

  • Record the client, displayed warehouse/location, and exact visible mismatch.
